The new scaffolding for the restoration of the mosaics of the baptistery will allow visitors to touch them with their hands,it,Keep Calm and carry on Preview in Florence with the cast of the film,it

Per la prima volta sarà possibile per il pubblico vedere da vicino i mosaici della cupola, Made on preparatory designs of artists such as Cimabue and Coppo di Marcovaldo,it,that on the sides of the grandiose scene of the final judgment tell the stories of Genesis on four registers,it,by Giuseppe Jew,it,of Christ and the Baptist,it,A unique and unrepeatable experience,it,that it will be possible to live only during the years of the restoration,it,Visits will start from the next,it,booking on the Opera website,it,The construction site and the restoration intervention are commissioned and financed by the work of Santa Maria del Fiore in agreement with the Archdiocese of Florence,it,Under the high surveillance of the Archeology Superintendency,it,Fine arts and landscape for the metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Prato and Pistoia,it, che ai lati della grandiosa scena del Giudizio finale narrano su quattro registri le Storie della Genesi, di Giuseppe ebreo, di Cristo e del Battista.

The construction site is a project of the work of Santa Maria del Fiore with Tecno System Contracts and Layher S.p.A,it,while the intervention was entrusted to the archaeological conservation center that among the many restored mosaic masterpieces,it,boasts the famous ones of the monastery of Santa Caterina on Mount Sinai,it,The work starting from,it,first restored the outside of the monument and then the internal parts with mosaics,it,financing the work with,it,As many will invest them for the restoration of the mosaics of the dome,it,In order to restore the mosaic vault of the Baptistery of Florence,it,It was necessary to design and create a technologically innovative construction site capable of making the entire mosaic surface of the vault accessible,it. mentre l’intervento è stato affidato al Centro di Conservazione Archeologica che tra i tanti capolavori a mosaico restaurati, vanta quelli celeberrimi del Monastero di Santa Caterina sul monte Sinai.

Per poter restaurare la volta musiva del Battistero di Firenze, è stato necessario progettare e realizzare un cantiere tecnologicamente innovativo in grado di rendere accessibile l’intera superficie musiva della volta (over 1.000 mq) and at the same time he had the slightest visual impact on the ground,it,thus leaving visible to visitors,it,thousand only in,it,The walls and the Scarsella beautifully decorated with marble and mosaics,it,whose restoration ended in July last year,it,After a long period of gestation,it,The identified solution was to create a mushroom -shaped scaffolding,it,m and diameter,it,which develops on an area of,it,sqm walkable in the upper part,it,in the face of a surface occupied on the ground of alone,it,The scaffolding,it,built with,it,Use the latest generation aluminum beams,it,Layher Flex,en,that passing through the quadrangular openings that overlook the penthouse of the baptistery,it,they allow you to evenly distribute the loads on the supporting structure of the monument,it, lasciando così visibili ai visitatori (1 milione e 215 mila solo nel 2022) le pareti e la scarsella magnificamente decorate con marmi e mosaici, il cui restauro è terminato a luglio dell’anno scorso.

The restoration of the mosaic top of the Baptistery of Florence,it,that for over a century nobody has been able to examine and study closely,it,may use the experience gained in the previous restoration of the internal walls of the Baptistery and the information acquired on the past restorations and in particular that of,it,performed by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure,it,It is hypothesized,it,Based on the final report of the latter,it,that the intervention will face a situation that presents,it,an area of,it,sqm of ancient mosaic,it,Attached on the original Malta,it,probably under the detachment phase,it,square meters of mosaic surfaces detached and rearranged on cement mortar by the opes,it,square meters of surfaces fallen and treated in plaster decorated in the intervention of the,it, che da oltre un secolo nessuno ha potuto esaminare e studiare da vicino, potrà avvalersi dell’esperienza maturata nel precedente restauro delle pareti interne del Battistero e delle informazioni acquisite sui passati restauri e in particolare quello del 1898 – 1907 eseguito dall’Opificio delle Pietre Dure.

Si ipotizza, sulla base della relazione finale di quest’ultimo, che l’intervento dovrà affrontare una situazione che presenta: una superficie di 344 mq di mosaico antico, allettato su malta originale, probabilmente in fase di distacco; 567 mq di superfici di mosaico staccate e riallettate su malta cementizia dall’Opificio; 128 mq di superfici cadute e trattate a intonaco decorato nell’intervento del 1820 – 1823 and then redone to mosaic in the last restoration,it,In these days, the necessary diagnostic investigations will start not only to check the detachments or the decoesions but also to define the degradation of the cards,it,the composition and the state of "health" of the different materials that make up the work,it,Based on all graphic information,it,Photographic and diagnostics acquired will then be possible to outline in detail the specific intervention methodologies for each problem,it,identify the most appropriate and innovative materials and then proceed to the actual restoration,it,Dominated by the figure of Christ judge,it,The mosaics of the Baptistery dome were a source of inspiration for the representation of Hell in Dante's Divine Comedy,it,To the,it.

Verso il 1225, According to the date registered in the Scarsella del Baptistery,it,The works started,it,Probably resorting to mosaicists who came from outside and to furnaces already active elsewhere,it,But soon the Florentine artists were able to conquer full autonomy,it,And at the end of the century the over a thousand square meters of the dome had cloaked in the sparkling mosaic garment,it,More generations of artists succeeded the scaffolding to create a spectacular anthology of art,it,pictorial and mosaic together,it,of which the turn of the Scarsella also includes,it,whose mosaics were made while still worked on those of the dome,it,Once this colossal company has been completed,it,They wanted to extend them also to the parietal areas,it,where they were originally not foreseen,it,"The work of Santa Maria del Fiore,it, i lavori presero avvio, probabilmente ricorrendo a mosaicisti venuti da fuori e a fornaci già attive altrove.

“L’Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore – explains President Luca Bagnoli,it,was born to build the Cathedral of Florence and administer the assets dedicated to its maintenance,it,The subsequent evolution,it,crystallized in the concordatary rules,it,On closer inspection assigns two purposes,it,an explicit,it,primaria,pt,being churches,it,that of keeping buildings at the service of cult,it,an implicit,it,to maintain them as cultural heritage of interest for the whole community,it,as a cultural heritage of humanity,it,The restoration of the mosaics of the baptistery dome fully responds to these purposes and represents the continuation of a commitment started in,it,and who will end in 2028 ",it - nasce per costruire il Duomo di Firenze e amministrare i beni dedicati al suo mantenimento.

”For centuries, the work of Santa Maria del Fiore has been taking care of the baptistery and cathedral which are the places of the source of Christian life,it,baptism,it,And the other the culmination of Christian life the Eucharist,it,Cardinal Giuseppe Betori says,it,All this our fathers wanted it in the sign of beauty,it,because through it the truth of the mystery that is celebrated here, that is, the fact that God meets man is also expressed,it,For this reason, in the baptistery on the one hand there is the unfathomable mystery of God represented in some way by the geometric forms in marbles,it,maximum abstraction,it,of transcendence,it,and on the other the fact that our religion is an embodied religion made of bodies,it, il battesimo, e l’altro il culmine della vita cristiana l’Eucarestia, - afferma il Cardinale Giuseppe Betori - Tutto questo i nostri padri lo hanno voluto nel segno della bellezza, perché attraverso di essa fosse espressa anche la Verità del mistero che qui si celebra e cioè il fatto che qui Dio incontra l’uomo. Per questo nel Battistero da una parte c’è il mistero insondabile di Dio rappresentato in qualche modo dalle forme geometriche nei marmi, massimo dell’astrazione, della trascendenza, e dall’altra il fatto che la nostra religione è una religione incarnata fatta di corpi, that of Christ,it,that of the men who believed in him,it,faces,it,figures that we find represented in the mosaics of the balcony and that triumph in those of the dome,it,The baptistery is a building that says the specific Christian,it,For this reason, taking care not only concerns aesthetics,it,Here the beauty leads to the truth,it,The restoration of mosaics is therefore a work valid for faith and not only for the history of art,it,From archive research,it,who proceeded the restoration project,it,News emerged that document maintenance interventions starting from,it,made necessary due to water infiltrations from the roof that had damaged the mosaics,it, quello degli uomini che hanno creduto in lui, volti, figure che ritroviamo rappresentate nei mosaici del ballatoio e che trionfano in quelli della cupola.

We know that for the first intervention the artist Agnolo Gaddi was in charge and subsequently,it,The work assigns an annual income of thirty florins to the painter Alessio Baldovinetti to verify the stability of the mosaics and intervene punctually where necessary,it,Over the following centuries, further maintenance interventions will be performed,it,The most important will be that of,it,by the Florentine painter Giovanni Orlandini and Giuseppe Sorbolini who however did not be useful because in the already June of,it,A large section of mosaics and painted plaster had detached itself,it,It was thus decided to intervene again,it,painting the areas where the mosaics had fallen,it,instead of redoing them in mosaic,it,And for this the painter Luigi Ademollo was commissioned,it,who worked there from,it, starting from 1483, l’Opera assegna una rendita annuale di trenta fiorini al pittore Alessio Baldovinetti per verificare la stabilità dei mosaici ed intervenire puntualmente dove necessario.

Ademollo also used large iron plates to fix the mosaics,it,Solution that was completely ineffective so much so that at the end of the nineteenth century when the work commits the factory of the hard stones,it,Then directed by the Superintendent Edoardo Marchionni,it,The fall of large areas of mosaic was imminent,it,Thanks to the final report of the opes, we know that the mosaic vault was restored for,it,Sqm fallen and painted in plaster by Luigi Ademollo were redone in mosaic thanks to the cartoons of the painter Arturo Viligiardi,it,Using the ancient fall cards and new orders in Murano,it,Few of the others,it,m2 were adhering at a time and the factory decided to detach,it,sqm and rearrange them with a mortar containing a portion of slow socket concrete,it, soluzione che risultò del tutto inefficace tanto che a fine Ottocento quando l’Opera incarica l’Opificio delle Pietre Dure, allora diretto dal soprintendente Edoardo Marchionni, era imminente la caduta di larghe zone di mosaico.
