On the feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh, last Thursday, during the singing of Vespers in the church of San Salvatore in Arcivescovado, the Community of the Sons of God asked the Archbishop of Florence, Cardinal Giuseppe Betori,, the opening of the process of the process of beatification of their founder, Don Divo Barsotti.

It was the same Betori who wanted a formal act essentially acquire solemnity in consideration of the figure of Barsotti.

The monks of the community barsottiana delivered to the Archbishop demand the opening of the cause, il mandate postulatorio, the list of witnesses to be interviewed and a copy of all the published writings of Barsotti of which this year marks the centenary of the birth occurred in Palaia, in the province of Pisa and the Diocese of San Miniato, the 25 April 1914.

Priest, Mystic, theologian, preacher, spiritual father and great "writer of the mysteries of God", Barsotti has assets of at least 500 titles including books and essays, ranging from liturgy to dogmatic, the spiritual life of the Russian monasticism, from Franciscan spirituality to poetry.

From 1955 he lived in Settignano, on the hills of Florence in a small hermitage called the highest expression of Russian monasticism, St. Sergius of Radonezh, whose liturgical feast was celebrated just last Thursday, day chosen for the solemn ceremony of request.

TO “Casa San Sergio” Don Barsotti died 15 February 2006.

The hope now, as he said in his homily during the Vespers Betori, “is that the Church recognizes the sanctity of Don Divo Barsotti”.

Padre Benedetto Ravano, Moderator General of the Sons of God, thanked the Cardinal Betori on behalf of the entire community for their attention.

The preparatory work lies ahead difficult and longer than normal because just because of the writings of Fr Barsotti, all enclosed in 5 huge and heavy boxes presented by the Community.

Ogni singolo scritto deve essere vagliato da due Censori, or theological experts, and for this reason the Cardinal Betori asked nicely 100 Italian theologians to make themselves available for this job, but at the moment only in 40 have responded positively.

Solo quando tutti gli scritti saranno vagliati dai Censori allora si potrà procedere con i passi successivi e arrivare all’apertura del processo vero e proprio.

Fino a quel giorno non resta che pregare don Divo Barsotti perchè faccia un miracolo per accellerare il lavoro dei Censori.
