Back the facade of the Church of Saints Simon and Jude

Were dismantled last 16 December the scaffolding that by the middle of last October covered part of the facade of the Church of Saints Simon and Jude in the piazzetta di San Simone, one of the most charming places of the historical centre of Florence.

La conclusione del restauro consente ora di guardare con rinnovato interesse la facciata della chiesa col suo elegante portale e il bell’affresco con la raffigurazione della Madonna fra i santi Simone e Giuda , due opere d’arte esposte alla permanente visione collettiva e parte del patrimonio artistico urbano che arricchiscono Firenze rendendola unica.

The restoration had made it urgent for the serious deterioration of the sandstone columns, beautiful carved capitals and the precarious situation of the fresco, both dating from the 1630.

The works were executed by Sabino and Garcia together with Lucia Beans, coordinated and directed by Maria Matilde Simari of Superintendence.

The Lunette frescoed is the work of Nicodemus Farrell (Fiesole 1574 – 1650), a painter who has left his work in the Cathedral of Fiesole, in the monastery of Santa Trinita, nel chiostro di Ognissanti e in tanti altri luoghi di Firenze e del circondario.

The stone portal with sculpted capitals with elegant garlands and reasons mascheroni is probably referable to the architect Gherardo Silvani which in 1630 He oversaw the renovation of the Church commissioned by Batholomew Galilei, Butler of Cardinal Leopoldo de ' Medici.

L’intervento costituisce un indispensabile apporto alla conservazione del nostro patrimonio ed anche un piccolo contributo alla riscoperta di un angolo della città e di una sua antica chiesa che conserva importanti opere del Cinque e del Seicento fiorentino con dipinti di Granacci, Naldini, Vignali e Curradi.
