Florence remembers Mitoraj

The President of OMA, Giampiero Maracchi, recalled the participation of Igor Mitoraj inauguration: “I remember with emotion the meeting with Igor Mitoraj, occurred last April in Florence in occasion of the exhibition 'Jewels of the artist' to which the teacher has contributed paying some of his works; it was his last public appearance ".

Ornella Casazza, una delle due curatrici assieme a Laura Felici, have detto: "Igor Mitoraj has been with us at the opening of the exhibition on the jewelry artist. The are extremely grateful for, in the sign of the friendship that bound us for so many years, it was so lavished and, despite his health conditions, has been with us paying his finest pieces Association OMA and the Museo Horne. It is a loan surely significant for the city of Florence ".

The Superintendent of the State Museums of Florence, Cristina Acidini ha oggi parole di grande commozione nel ricordare Igor Mitoraj, because “disappears the unique shape of a great artist of our time, drawing on the creativity of the Middle European deeply cultured and training in Paris, has created a parallel world in which, by means of his bronzes, the gods live among us, heroes, the phantoms of archaic myths of the West. Close, for his feelings and his choice, the immense wealth of archeology and art history from the sedimented in museums and historical gardens in Florence, Mitoraj wanted on several occasions to express his membership in this ideal, integrating his works to the permanent collections, on the occasion of exhibitions beautiful and precious gifts, for which it returns to express gratitude ".

Mitoraj was born in Germany and raised in Krakow, and Polonia.

At the Museums of Florence are many of his works including the large sculpture of Tindaro cracked in the Meadow of the chestnut trees of the Garden of Boboli, donated after his retrospective exhibition of 1999, 16 drawings donated in 2000 the Prints and Drawings Department of the Uffizi, and the double-portrait in bronze, donated to the Uffizi Gallery and the exhibition in the last part of the Vasari Corridor.
