At the beginning of 1843, in response to a report by the British government on the abuse of children working in mines and factories, Dickens swore he mounted a “shot bat on this system on behalf of the children of the poor.” That blow was the A Christmas Carol to which the writer worked for six weeks starting from October of 1843

The first six thousand copies were sold in five days, within two months were produced eight adaptations for the stage. This was only the debut of a work that has imperiously in the imagination of all young Anglo-Saxon being, come disse Thackeray, a "national wealth". In the decades to follow, thanks to the many theatrical releases, radio, film and television, became the most famous Christmas fable for all of Western culture.

The story of the redemption of Scrooge is now offered in the form of a stage reading of Pergola. An opportunity for young and old to learn or relive a magical place the words of the great English novelist and to celebrate with the actors that day, as recalled Dickens, is "the only, in the long calendar Vintage, in which all, men and women, seem like unanimous consent freely open their hearts jealously locked up then, to see in people of lower status to their only real fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of humans that rotten towards other half. TALES OF CHRISTMAS
With Massimiliano Vinegars, Alessandro Baldinotti , Matthew Ramundo, Giusy Merli, Anna Scola
Director Andrea Macaluso
Stage elements and costumes cured from Laboratory Teatro della Pergola

"Fairy tales were me in mind as a seed, it took only a breath of wind, a ray of sunshine, a drop of bitter herb, and they bloomed "Andersen wrote at the end of his career.

His tales are so: pure nature, a lush and uncontrolled proliferation of images, characters, places where comes immediately want to get lost. A kind of fantastic maze of the human soul where everything seems simple, but it turns out really dense and magnetic like a child's drawing.

What mystery is hidden between the lines of his fascinating stories, which magic fluid is released when reading those words that continue to captivate audiences of all ages for more than a century?

There is no end to the need to listen to the tales of Andersen. Because the tenacious tin soldier, the small little match, the ugly duckling, snow man, the Metal Pig talk about us. Inadequacy of our life, our loneliness, of our fears, crowds of our aspiration to purity and happiness.
